We've been Framed!

Work is finally beginning to start in earnest.  The framing has begun!

Rosema construction has begun the framing.  They will be building the vestibule at the front door, the wall between the warm room and the ice room and the wall between the ice room and the ice maintenance room on the west side of the warehouse.

When I arrived in the morning, they had just gotten started.

The vestibule at the front door is to protect the broomstackers from the bone-chilling cold in mid-Winter when the door is opened.  When complete, there will be a small heater that heats the vestibule.  We have preserved the view onto the ice from the front door by having a large window directly across from the front door.

They made great progress and by the end of the day, they had the vestibule fully framed.

To the left of the vestibule in this picture is an electrical closet that will provide us some storage and also house our circuit breaker boxes.  The window that is within the closet will be covered with some information about our club to obstruct the view into that room.

Leading off from the vestibule will be a half-height (4 ft wall) that will lead people along the east wall of the warehouse.  The purpose of this wall is to keep people from tracking salt anywhere in the club without obstructing the view onto the ice.  Eventually, we will have benches and cubbies here for people to take off their shoes.  This way we can contain any dirt and salt being tracked into the club into a single area.  The half height wall will go here.

An additional benefit of the wall as it gives us a space to place our Cool Curling table (on the west side of that half height wall).  A Cool Curling table is similar to a bar shuffleboard table but it uses silicon beads and the stones will actually curl!  I have played it at the Continental Cup and it was really cool....hence the name, I guess.  Preston Short has been fundraising through 50/50 raffles at our club and has just about enough money collected to get one of these tables.

I stopped by this morning and the crew is working on building the wall between the warm room and the ice room.  Should have it completed by the end of the day.  The plan is for this wall to have a solid wall of glass across all 4 sheets providing a totally unimpeded view of the activities on the ice.  Once the wall is built we will check its stability to see if we need to add any support beams.  If we do, this will slightly impact the view, but it will still be much better than the view we have at our current facility.

Will post tomorrow with the progress made today.  Thanks for reading.
