Movin' On Up!

We have until the end of April to vacate our current facility and there is a lot of work to do.

On Monday, April 8th we had a whole cadre of members (and friends/spouses & children) help us get the warm room (and some ice room) items moved to the new building.

Preston Short, Marty Lemert, Geoff Randolph, Bobby Slocum, Mitch Kipfer (and daughter Lauren), Lynne Leckie, Bob Leckron, John Sherman, Sam Glassley (and his wife), Emily Marciniuk (and friend Wyatt), Andy Buuck, Shawn Wall, Gary Stoops, Matt Hart, Jeff Bockelman, Rob Binns, Tyler Shawgo, Karen Shawgo, Jerri Mead, Grayson Fischer and Craig Fischer all pitched in (and I might even have missed 1 or 2 people).  Nearly 1/3 of the club turned out to help which is a great turnout.  It is interesting to note that we had more people to help on this one evening than we had the entire time that we built the current facility.

In just 3 hours, we were able to nearly completely liberate the current facility of  its furnishings.  Great work by everyone!

The new facility is starting to fill up.  We got a ground unit storage trailer delivered to the back parking lot at the club to store things that we couldn't easily store out of the way.  The trailer will mainly be used to store the ice equipment until we are ready for it but also have table, chairs and benches out there.

Geoff Randolph also spent some time re-doing the wording on our sign out front.  Heavy winds had blown must of the letters off the sign.  Our new signage gets installed Friday so hopefully this is the last picture with the Habitat for Humanity ReStore signage.

Still more work to do with the ice equipment.  We need to complete the melt, get the mats rolled up, get one or more doors opened (i.e. take down the walls hiding the doors), get a forklift in to take down the dehumidifer, take down the duct sox and then transport it all (and the chiller) to the new facility.  All by the end of the month.

One hitch is that the sprinkler heads that we needed to drop to be below the low e ceiling are now impeding the ability for any of the garage doors to open.  We can't currently open the doors without hitting a sprinkler line and flooding the place with foul smelling water.  We had an incident where we built the current facility where a contractor opened a garage door after the sprinklers went up.  They bent the pipe but didn't flood the place.  This time, we think, we have the foresight to avoid that situation.  Tomorrow, Koorsen will come out to cap those so that we can open a few of the doors.

We're on track but we can't take our eyes off the prize.  Lots more to do in April including transporting the ice mats.  That should be interesting.
